WE LOOK at why Australian shooters need the National Gun Conference and what it will do.  The conference will be the first attempt to bring a range of shooting interests together to deal with our challenges at a national, rather than state, level.

GUN NUTS: Why this seasoned journalist needs to recalibrate herself

SUSIE O’BRIEN is a journalist for the Herald Sun. She recently wrote an opinion piece following the stabbings at Bondi Junction, casting a wide net over shooters describing them as gun nuts. She recycles the same arguments as anti-gun control groups that 'guns kill people' and 'we don’t need more guns in our community'.
Yet you won’t find any experience or qualifications among those critics: not even a relevant firearms licence, which tells you something about how seriously their views should be taken.
We’ve written this open letter to Suzie to try and explain why we think she’s wrong – and needs to help change the way she talks about the shooting community.

DUCK HUNTING: RSPCA reneges on key commitment

WITH THE VICTORIAN DUCK SEASON starting this week, we thought we’d do a bit of digging to show how hypocritical our opponents are.
In 2016 and when the RSPCA was put in the spotlight, their CEO, Liz Walker, gave a public commitment to stop advocating against duck hunting. 
Her commitment was “without reservation” – but that didn’t last.  Last year, she told the Victorian Parliament that the RSPCA was firmly against duck hunting and will no doubt pop her head up when this year’s Victorian duck season opens on Wednesday 10 April.
WE ALSO give a quick update on some more traps being set for shooters in WA.

DON'T COP IT: Here's why you need to stand up for your sport

ARE YOU an occasional plinker?  Or a target shooter or hunter? Or maybe you’re a collector? 
No matter what you do, you will be well aware of the political challenges facing the shooting sports - even if you HATE politics.
From gun bans to politicians who won’t leave our laws alone, our problems have been around for DECADES – and are ACCELERATING.

We're seeing the same problems and want the same outcomes. We all want better LAWS, better POLICIES and for our government's to INVEST in what we do.

BAD BUSINESS: Dealer's woes lead to an important win

BANKS, PAYMENT PROVIDERS AND SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS continue to cause havoc for dealers by denying services, despite previous efforts to fix those problems.
WE INTERVIEWED Adelaide Hills based dealer, Range and Field, about the problems they've been facing - to the point where they are about to get political.
SINCE RECORDING this episode, we asked the ANZ bank to provide a copy of the policy it was relying on.  They have not only come back to deny the policy, but will provide Range and Field with banking services. They say they will also 'educate' the local branch - and provide Range and Field with EFTPOS facilities.
It's only one battle facing dealers -  but it's good to have won at least this fight.

VICTORIA'S DECISION to buck a parliamentary committee's recommendation to ban duck hunting is not only significant for hunters, but all shooters - wherever they are - and whether they are hunters, target shooters or gun collectors. 
IN THIS EPISODE, we explain how the recommendation came about, and the politics around it. 
We talk about the impact this has for gun dealers, shooters who just want to get away for the weekend, politicians, the economy - and why this is such a pivotal decision for shooters who aren't even hunters.
